Barbara Best – Creative Director, Producer
Barbara is a theatre actor, director, producer, singer, voice over artist, and writer. Brain Lint Productions was formed in the late 90’s to produce a rather terrible version of Sam Shepard’s Angel City. Since then the productions have gotten better (honest), and we have branched out into voice over and now film production. Super Plus Girl, Barbara’s first screenplay, is now in development, and although it was originally meant just to make people laugh, it has an underlying theme of self acceptance – a topic many women have trouble with.
Some of the shows she has performed in are: Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamboat, All I Really Need to Know I Learned in Kindergarten, Dear World, The Secret Life of Walter Mitty, Crimes of the Heart, Our Town, Opening Night, and Jesus Christ Superstar (the last four she directed as well). Other directing experience includes: Table Manners for the RMTC Master Playwrights Festival, Recycled for the Fringe, short works from Generation Nexxt for Sarasvàti Productions’s FemFest, assistant directing If You Give a Mouse a Cookie for MTYP, and assistant directing Educating Rita for both RMTC’s Mainstage and touring productions.
Super Plus Girl is part of a trilogy. The prequel, Big Happy is complete and ready for development, and she is working on the sequel. She just completed a drama about ageing titled Out With The Old.
Brian Lint has optioned the book Motherless by Gabriel Horn, White Deer of Autumn, and Barbara recently finished the screenplay.
Barbara is producing a show about embroidery, actually it’s also about people, but centred on their love of embroidery, called One Stitch at a Time, for the Shaw Spotlight Channel. It has been on hold due to covid but is going back into production now.
She is an announcer at CJNU 93.7 FM Nostalgia radio in Winnipeg. Her show is Mondays 3:30 – 6:00pm.
